Visual Arts 10
Visual Arts 10 is designed to introduce students to tonal drawing techniques, design and colour theory. It is often the first time students intentionally push their knowledge and skill set. Below are some of our recent projects with examples of student work.
Tonal Strips
This process asks students to match tonal and textural detail by removing three strips from a printed image and drawing in the missing detail. It involves the introduction of blending stumps and kneaded erasers.
This process involves students drawing an image at double the scale using a grid technique. It is often the first time students have attempted 'serious' drawing. The results are always phenomenal.
Postcard Project
This process involves having students complete a series of 5" x 7" collages. Each needs to meet several criteria, including intentional manipulation of the principles of design.
Contour Line Drawing
This process involves students learning how to closely observe visual information and use line weight/quality to replicate it.
Colour Theory
This process involves students familiarizing themselves with the colour wheel and exploring aesthetic and psychological relationships among colours.
Water Colour
This process involves having students experiment with colour mixing by creating a body of work with water colour paints. Students complete landscapes, nature studies and abstract triptychs.
